Hi ladies, I have had an attempt at our piece for the rationale. I think it needs to be re-worded is some spots. i figured we could go through it all together and cut and paste what we want and what we don't want. I did it late last night, so I'm hoping that it makes at least a little sense haha. Let me know if this isn't what we want and ill be happy to try something else. Well done ladies, we are nearly at the end of the tunnel..i can see the light :o) Regards, Amy 1:38 pm. 30.09.2009 Hi Amy, you have confused me a little with this page as I thought that we were all simply adding to the rationale that everyone has thus far contributed to, the one that you posted at the top of the context and rationale page. I have added a brief comment to lesson two . I think that we have discussed student learning in overall terms within this rationale such as assessment opportunities, scaffolding - tuning in finding out and conclusions etc. Are you not happy with that arrangement??? I think we have all taken a different interpretation of what we were actually going to do last night. I thought we were making a fresh page so it would be neat with no confusion. I just had a look at Julianne's and mine isn't a plan. I have simply spoken about How the resources will enhance learning and why they are appropriate. That was the impression i was under last night....I'm confused myself now....i guess i can just cut and paste this into the rationale....ill wait until we meed tonight as I have no idea if i am even on the right track now.... How the resource will enhance student learning.. The resource ‘I think’ is a great introduction activity to allow students to get a feel of what other students their age believe a community is. This resource will enhance student learning as it is relevant, visual, inquiry based, age appropriate, scaffolds, allows collaborative learning and students are able to share knowledge. Students often learn more from their peers than their teachers, as they can relate better. It’s the teacher’s job to get the information out with the help of resources, then assess at the end of the lessons to see how the students are achieving.
The ‘I think’ resource brings a new experience to the students. “To qualify as a learner, change must be brought on by experience – by interaction of a person with his or her environment” (Woolfolk & Margetts, 2007, p.220). The ‘I think’ resource offers students the chance to enhance their learning by allowing scaffolding from the resource to the KWL. Students bounce off each other’s learning as they work collaboratively, and share their knowledge. Enhanced leaning takes place when “an experience causes a relatively permanent change in an individual’s knowledge or behaviour” (Woolfolk & Margetts, 2007, p.220).Word count 182 - not including references in paragraphs. Why the resources are appropriate… The ‘I think’ resource is appropriate for these students as it enhances their learning. The resources is within their Zone of Proximal Development “which is the distance between a person’s current level of independence functioning and what they can achieve with the assistance of others” (Woolfolk & Margetts, 220, p.56).
The ‘I think’ resource is in student language which students often relate to. I think is an inquiry based resource which is similar to discovery learning. This resource is appropriate as it builds on prior knowledge students have, us student centers, it emphasizes skill and development, requires students to pose ideas, encourages learner interaction, relevant to students lives, direct experiences, raises different perspectives and tables values.
It is always valuable for teachers to introduce a relevant topic, as “learning must be brought by experience” (Woolfolk & Margetts, 2007, p.220), and be engaging for students to want to achieve to their full potentials. Words 142 – not including references in paragraphs.
